About the event
About the venue:
Green Island Preserve is a 60 acre agro-forestry woodland inside the city of Wadena in northcentral Minnesota. The name comes from it’s situation as an island of green surrounded by homes and retail. Interspersed throughout the forest are three small apple orchards, a hill of crabapple trees, trails, a flower garden, home, meditation kuti, sculptures, a pond, and 1000 ft of creek. The grounds are offered as a community and visitor resource, with an open door policy, even while it is still a private residence. It’s larger purpose is the development of a legacy green-space rich with fruit, herbs, wildlife, and clean water for a positive area future. While the land is highly productive that fertility has not been marketed for income... yet.
In the long-term, owner Kent Sheer is interested in meeting emerging farmers or forester swith sustainable ideals and practices with a goal to eventually manage this sustainble food forest or agrihood community. In the short-term he is interested in offering unusual opportunities to especially clever growers, foresters, or artists.
Attendees are encouraged to carpool! Please contact Kent (info below) about coordinating.

About the event:
The Farmland Access Hub, Renewing the Countryside (RTC) and our partners are hosting a series of regional meet & greet events to provide learning opportunities about financial and technical support for beginning and transitioning farmers. These events are designed to introduce service providers, programs and resources that can aid beginning and retiring farmers (or exiting landowners), as well as allow for networking time between land-seeking farmers and landowners.
Attendees will gather at Green Island Preserve for the learning session from 1–5 pm. At the conclusion of the event attendees may participate in a community apple pressing and are encouraged to bring apples. Please contact Kent Sheer (info above) for details.
